Nuffield Practice Patient Participation Group
What is the Nuffield Practice Patient Participation Group?
The Patient Group works in partnership with the Practice to develop good communication between the practice and its patients, and offers practical support to help improve its services. For more information on Patient Groups, please see the NAPP (National Association for Patient Participation)website: www.napp.org.uk
The position of Chair is currently vacant; as is that of Secretary. We are hoping to identify officers for these posts at the April meeting. The Vice Chair is Graham Shelton. The Group meets every 2 months on a Tuesday at 18.30, and there are real benefits to the practice by having the involvement of patients.
Over the past years the Group has published a quarterly newsletter ‘Keeping Well’ which aims to provide patients with interesting and informative articles about new services provided in our local area, ways in which we can all take responsibility for our own health and wellbeing and important developments at the practice. For example, online booking for appointments, changes to prescription arrangements etc. The Group also helped to determine an action plan for improvements to the surgery following the January 2014 Patient Survey.
Our Practice is one of 8 practices which comprise the West Oxfordshire Locality Group (WOLG). This is part of the Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (OCCG) which took on the responsibility for local NHS services in April 2013. In times of great change the Patient Group feels it is essential for patients to be involved in helping to determine the priorities and plans for services in our area. Graham Shelton, our vice-chair, has taken a leading role as chair of the WOLG Forum. This is a group of representatives from local charitable groups, patient participation groups and others who feel strongly that patients should be involved and able to influence decisions about what services are provided in the future for our communities.
The Patient Group would welcome a broader mix of patients especially for under represented groups such as younger people and those from different ethnic communities.
